I do remember TWO SMART PEOPLE. It didn't stay with me as EVIE did, but, yes, anything with the great Lucy (well, almost anything) is worth a look.

Another flawed-but-quite-watchable pre-film noir Jules Dassin-directed film [reading that sentence one might call me Jules DASHIN']:
TWO SMART PEOPLE (MGM, 1946) starring Lucille Ball (gorgeously photographed by Karl Freund--no wonder she wanted him for I LOVE LUCY!), John Hodiak, and Lloyd Nolan. Ball and Hodiak play competing con-artists and the filn climaxes at the Mardi Gras. Nolan is the detective after them. Not a bad little film, and being directed by directed by Dassin gives it an extra little cachet. And of course Lucy is my all-time favorite, so that gives it a BIG cachet.
