		<description>Thanks for writing, Ed.  I do think that the excitement you felt for Elvis in the mid 50s does shine through in some of the earlier movies, specifically JAILHOUSE ROCK.  It&#039;s those 60s Elvis movies, more corny than cool, that depress me.  Some singers, like Sinatra, can take their vocal skills and translate them into acting skills.  Alas, Elvis wasn&#039;t one of those artists.  But when he gets to sing and swivel he is unmistakably a star.</description>

I&#039;m also deeply touched by the sadness in his life; he simply didn&#039;t know what to do with his money, his fame, his admirers, or himself.  But but but: You&#039;re right about the movies, and it was a pleasure--even for me--to read this little essay.</description>
