“I Left My Hat in Haiti”

December 21st, 2009 · 2 Comments

Well, actually, no, I didn’t, but that song from ROYAL WEDDING was in my head last week when we stopped at Labadee, Haiti, on our Royal Caribbean cruise.  This marked my first gig as a cruise-ship lecturer and it turned out to be a wonderful and rewarding experience.  I did five lectures on the subject of (what else?) classic movies, building up a nice following among the passengers and meeting many interesting and entertaining people.  I had never before traveled south during the holiday season, having been a Northeasterner my whole life, and it was kind of surreal to be on the beach one day and then in the tail-end of a major blizzard two days later.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!  Thank you for reading my blog in 2009, and I hope you’ll stick with me in the new decade, especially as I get closer to the release of my new book TENNESSEE WILLIAMS AND CO. (due out next fall).  It’s been a great year, spending my time with my book’s subjects, among them Vivien Leigh, Geraldine Page, Marlon Brando, Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, and Anna Magnani, in both their Williams pictures and ALL the others they made.

Here’s to a great 2010!

Your wonderful blog postings were one of the few high points of a generally dismal 2009, John. Thank you for sharing your opinions with us. I hope you have a great 2010. Knowing that a DiLeo book is coming out already gives next year a heads-up over this year!
